A boat trailer makes it easy to transport your boat to various destinations, from the waterways to the service department. The following tips will help you find the right boat trailer for your lifestyle.

Choose the Material

Boat trailers are usually made from either aluminum or galvanized steel.

The Benefit of Aluminum Boat Trailers

Aluminum is a lightweight material. This results in aluminum boat trailers weighing significantly less than galvanized steel options. With an aluminum boat trailer, your tow vehicle's handling and fuel efficiency will be much less affected.

The Benefit of Galvanized Steel Boat Trailers

Steel is a more rigid material and won't flex due to the weight of the boat. It's also coated with zinc and is able to resist rust. A steel boat trailer is a great option for freshwater adventures, but will face corrosion when placed in saltwater conditions.

Choose the Design

The two most common types of boat trailers are bunk trailers and roller trailers.

With a bunk trailer, the boat sits securely between rails that go the length of the trailer. You'll back all the way into the water in order to utilize the "float on/float off" unloading and loading process.

With a roller trailer, the boat will slide on and off thanks to the rollers found along the rails. You won't need to back all the way into the water, but these models do tend to be more expensive.
