RV Cooking Tips
When you are vacationing with your RV, you will need to coordinate meals for yourself and any passengers. Eating out for every meal usually isn't the best option for your health and for your budget. Plus, the more remote the area that you’re in is, the harder it will be to find a restaurant.
Cooking meals in your camper is a great strategy and the following tips help make it easier!
Plan Out Your Meals
A little bit of planning can help your vacation go smoother. Spend some time planning out what meals you want to cook. This will make it easier to ensure you bring all the right ingredients as well as the right amount of food. You don't want to pack too little food and end up hungry. You also don't want to pack too much food and end up wasting some of it!
Cook and Freeze Meals Before Your Trip
There are plenty of delicious and healthy meals you can cook in advance, then freeze until you are ready to eat them. All you will need is some way to reheat the meal in your camper, such as a microwave or oven. The more meals you cook and freeze in advance, the fewer meals you will have to prepare during your vacation.
Use Batch Cooking
No one wants to spend the majority of their trip stuck in the kitchen. Batch cooking is a great way to reduce your time in the kitchen so you can spend more of it outside your RV exploring the great outdoors. With batch cooking, you make a larger amount of an ingredient to then be used in multiple meals.
For example, cook six chicken breasts at once rather than two. Now you've got three meals that can be made differently using various sauces. Enjoy barbecue chicken one day, teriyaki chicken the next, then chicken tacos the next. You'll save time, water, and power by batch cooking.
Use a Slow Cooker
Slow cookers are a great way to prepare tasty meals without needing to stay in your kitchen to monitor or stir your food. Simply add all the ingredients into your slow cooker, set the cooking time and intensity, then go enjoy an adventure. When you return to your RV at the end of the day, you'll have a delectable meal ready to enjoy.
Clean as You Go
Campers usually don’t have massive kitchen spaces. It's easy for your cooking area to get overrun with dishes and ingredients, which is why you will want to clean as you go. Once you finish adding a spice or ingredient, put the remainder of the ingredients away. When you finish with a pot or pan, wash it or at least set it aside to soak. The more you clean and organize as you go, the more space you will have in your kitchen to cook. It will also make your post-meal cleanup much easier and faster.
