The process of hitching up and unhitching your travel trailer can be challenging at first. However, this is something you absolutely have to get right in order to use your travel trailer properly. Follow these steps to get it done.

Hitching Up

First, you need to remove your hitch lock and position the receiver latch into an open position. Lift the front of your trailer with a jack. Put the hitch close to its receiver and slide it in carefully, before you insert and secure your locking pin. Make sure that the pin is fixed in place, as this is what keeps your trailer hooked up to your vehicle.

Removing the Hitch

Once you arrive at your camping destination and you’re ready to park the travel trailer, you’ll want to slide the wheel chocks in behind the wheels of the trailer. Make sure that the jack is on level ground before you use it to raise up the trailer so that you can access the safety chains, brake controller, and brake cable for disconnection. Take off your sway bars and lower the trailer again. Lift up your ball receiver latch and let the hitch ball go, then jack up the trailer again to remove it from the hitch ball.
